Serial-over-IP (SoI) on Tibbo IoT Boards

At the moment Tibbo offers a single SoI board — the EM2001.

The EM2001 is a Tibbo BASIC/C-programmable IoT board with Ethernet, as well as optional Wi-Fi*, BLE* (Bluetooth Low-Energy), and 4G/LTE cellular* connectivity. The EM1001 has four independent UARTs.

The EM2001 may be uploaded with a fully functional serial-over-IP (SoI) application that turns the board into a powerful four-port serial-over-IP (SoI) device.

All three network interfaces — Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and 4G/LTE cellular — are fully supported by the SoI application, with automatic switchover depending on the network conditions.

As an SoI converter, the EM1001 is compatible with Tibbo Device Server Toolkit (TDST) for Windows. TDST includes the Virtual Serial Port Driver (VSPD), which enables you to use all four serial ports of the board as remote COM ports of your PC. The Linux version of the VSPD is available as well.

The board is self-sufficient — it does not require a host PCB to plug into. The RJ45 jack is mounted directly on the board. The EM2001 also contains a DC-DC regulator that can power the board and has an additional current budget for external hardware.
